. Excuse the respite! Justin and I have been incredibly busy on several projects during the last few months. Justin’s been working on the new _ Quarterly website, operating as a synthesis of our past projects and an articulation of things to come. You can see it here in all of it’s glory. I’ve been working on the new joint issue’s of _ Quarterly 5 + 6. . We’re pleased to announce that Issue 6 is a collaboration with both Showpaper and EFA Project Space and will be released first as a series of four Showpaper’s before being joined with the fifth issue of _ Quarterly. The issue’s are set to release in late October/early November, 2010. Featuring the work of Grant Willing, Katja Mater, Arthur Ou, and Borden Capalino, Issue 6 comes in the form of four, 16×22, monochromatic, newsprint posters printed in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black inks respectively. The project is connected to a physical exhibition being held at EFA, entitled Short-Term Deviation, opening September 23rd in NYC. (For more info on the exhibition click here) The prompt the artists were given utilized a mediated architectural space as a reference point, employing a similar structure to the ways in which music is translated from the printed page into a sonic form. That dictating structure, in this case the primary colors required for offset printing, is referenced and broken down in _ Quarterly 6. By viewing these monochromatic prints in a space all together, a certain flow is achieved similar to that of a musical piece. . Accompanying Issue 6 is Issue 5, an examination of musical notation from a historical and conceptual standpoint. Utilizing writings, found photographs, forms of notation and other such historical documents on the subject, we hope to assemble a document about documents, from an observational point of view. . Hope to see you at the opening! Best, Jesse Hlebo |
